Bleed
Ink painting with lightbox, Video, 2019

In an experimental performance. The artist and her mother sits on each side of a hanging rice paper and paint their own portrait with ink while erasing the marks with bleach. As they try to lay down their own likeness, their strokes inevitably bleed into each other’s portrait, and their attempt to erase each other’s strokes only result in erasing part of their own portrait. The continuous two-way influence in the performance juxtaposed with conversations between the artists and her mother, Bleed looks in to the mother-daughter dynamic and the generational trauma from one woman to another.
