The artist and her mother sits on each side of a hanging rice paper and paint their own portrait with ink while erasing the marks with bleach. As they try to lay down their own likeness, their strokes inevitably bleed into each other’s portrait, and their attempt to erase each other’s strokes only result in erasing part of their own portrait. The waves, sand and seagulls leave their traces, the cracks , barnacles, mosses and faeces accumulates, as if the strokes and marks made over time by a patient painter on these still canvases. The blemishes somehow form paintings on their own. (I can’t bring it with me , and I can’t stay to appreciate it grow, this will serves a souvenir.) Expecting is a continuous conversation with woman of different age groups with different background, discussing their experience with motherhood, their different expectations and attitueds towards the tales and traditions they grew up with. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The series started with the three subject matter in the photograph. A young mother waiting to be re-united with her separated son. A pregnant woman looking forward to the new life. Even today, the maturity (or value) of female individuals in some societies are still being measured by their bodily functions. GIVE ME BACK MY BABY is a visual study on the image of vengeful mother in asian folklores, exploring the duality of beauty and grotesque, of vulnerability and strength, encapsulated in a ghostly presence.
